Memorial Day Weekend 2012

Memorial Day Weekend 2012. Some would call it a success. Others would call it..well..not so much of a success. Others would call it just plain fun. Keegan and Mommy headed to southeast Iowa (mommy's family). The weekend started off with mommy's best friend getting married. The wedding was good..but..well everything that could go wrong, did.

This picture is as it looks. A bus. A bridal party. A frantic bus driver on a phone. And a corn field. The party bus between wedding and reception broke down. And we were stranded. But there was alcohol. There are no pictures to witness the missing photographer and flowers, the broken A.C in the reception, or any other mishaps. But thus describes the "not so successful" part of the weekend. Hey--they are still married.

Sunday everyone packed up and headed to the Petersen Plantation for some family fun grilling and a scavenger hunt. It was boys vs girls and it got a bit ugly. Luckily we got a baby sitter for all the kids so they didn't witness the nasty cheating that went on. Hence why the guys won.

The fun was followed by more fun at cousin Ashlan's 2nd birthday party. No pictures to prove it but Keegan sat in a swing the entire time we were there. Mommy must invest in one.

The weekend ended on Monday with Grandpa grilling some steaks and potatoes. Keegan opted for berries, berries, and more berries but everyone else enjoyed the food.

Keegan brought the headband to mommy so naturally she obliged and put it on

Woooo I love to give mommy a heart attack!!

Not a great photo, but still proof that Keegan's legs in fact go one in front of the other

Mommy & a best friend from college before the wedding

                                      With the bride!

Loving  some family time at the Plantation

3 members of the girls' scavenger hunt team. Better luck next time.

                                      The "winning" team

The whole group for the hunt at the plantation!

Mommy & Keegan were both sad to see the weekend end. Keegan has been in rare form the last week or so and although always a happy boy, a little oddly happy and smiley. No one is complaining. The kid puts the cheesiest grin on his face and just squeals for no reason. Mommy & Daddy continue to love the little guy more and more every day (not even sure how that is possible!) and he continues to learn and change every day. His latest skill is (well, walking!) and knowing the motions for the itsy bitsy spider. Mommy also heard him attempt to repeat "love you" but he has since refused. Keegan has more fun planned for this next weekend with Great Aunt Rita coming to town. We will be hitting the zoo, Sand in the City, and of course some restaurants. Until next time!

14 Months

Our blue eyed boy is 14 months old today! Time sure is flying and Keegan is growing like a weed! Mommy & Daddy were just noticing today that our baby is turning into a chubby/fat toddler. Darn it's cute though!

Keegan hasn't been up to a whole lot as of late...well he did move into a new apartment..one where he isn't dodging bullets and we don't have to hide inside with the blinds closed. So that's pretty cool.

Gotta keep those teeth pearly white!

Going to be a baker some day

Signing "more".....he just had his first oreo...

Desperate enough to sign "please"...with both hands!

                                                    All clean!

Keegan is such a fun loving, active, naughty, heart melting little boy. He keeps everyone on their toes but always puts a smile on your face! He is walking but still prefers to crawl. He points to and says a whole lot of words in some sort of Keegan language. He is signing "more",  "please", "all done", and "eat" (go figure), and can point to his head, nose, belly, and feet. Mommy & Daddy are so amazed and how much he learns and changes every day... he is definitely one loved little boy!

Definition.

Walk:
a : to move along on foot : advance by stepsb : to come or go easily or readilyc : to go on foot for exercise or pleasured : to go at a walk

While mommy admits these don't all entirely sum up Keegan's new skill (i.e we probably wouldn't use the word "easily" or "for pleasure" just yet)...but for the most part according to Mr. Webster Keegan is officially walking!

We don't have a video just yet as the minute the camera comes out Keegan's butt finds the ground. But, alas, mommy promises it's true. Keegan still prefers crawling as his primary mode of transportation but we have confidence he will soon figure out walking is more efficient. His problem now lies in that he hoots and hollers with every step and finishes by lunging into his final destination. No one said he was perfect.

                                      Mr. USA gymnast 2024

                                         Somewhat of proof of steps

                                             Spider-Baby!

Offering up some of his raisins...which may or may not be good for dogs

                                  Mommy's charmer at his finest

Note the blur: due to insane speed walking

So there you have it. It took 13ish months but Keegan can do the unthinkable. He has vowed to practice all week and allow a video by the weekend. Keegan and his ma and pa are moving in a few days so there are no promises as to when another blog will pop up...but soon!
